Subscription break-even

Work out how many eligible purchases cover a food or drink subscription.

Use only purchases you would otherwise make. Check exclusions, redemption limits, expiry, renewal and cancellation terms with the provider.

Count purchases you would already make

Subtract the subscriber’s per-purchase charge from the usual eligible price to find the saving per purchase. Divide the subscription fee by that saving, then round up to find the number of purchases needed to cover the fee.

Use the same time period for the fee and expected purchases. An annual fee can be converted to a monthly equivalent for comparison, but that does not make it a monthly contract. Redemption limits, excluded items and extra spending can change the value.

A practical example

A $15 monthly fee with $4 saved per eligible purchase takes four purchases to cover the fee. At eight purchases you would otherwise make, the net saving is $17. These are illustrative inputs, not a current subscription offer.
