Split the bill
Calculate a tip, tax and per-person total without mental arithmetic.
Tip is calculated on the pre-tax subtotal. Existing service charges are not automatically treated as tips. Check your receipt.
Understand what is being split
Enter the food and drink subtotal before tax. The calculator applies both percentages to that subtotal, adds the amounts, then divides the total equally by the number of people. Use the rate from your bill; no restaurant or location tax rate is inferred.
An automatic gratuity or service charge needs separate attention on the receipt. This calculator has no field that automatically subtracts an existing charge. Equal splitting also does not account for people ordering different amounts.
A practical example
With the example inputs, a $50 subtotal creates $4 tax at 8% and a $9 tip at 18%. The $63 total splits into $31.50 each for two people.
